Dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB) also known as diffuse Lewy body disease, cortical Lewy body disease, and senile dementia of Lewy type is a disease in which a mixture of symptoms akin to both Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases may be present. Lewy body dementia (LBD), a term including both DLB and Parkinson’s disease dementia (PDD) is estimated to account for between 10 to 25% of all dementia cases. DLB is classified as a synucleinopathy because a major pathological mechanism is abnormal aggregation of α-synuclein.
