Cara Schreiber, Ph.D.
Postdoc
About
Cara joined the Bitan Lab as a postdoctoral researcher in May 2025. She completed her Ph.D. in Neuroscience in late 2024 at the University of Veterinary Medicine, Hannover, Germany. Her doctoral research in the lab of Franziska Richter focused on the neurological impact of SARS-CoV-2 infection, particularly in relation to Parkinson’s disease (PD). Cara's work provided important insights into how COVID-19 might trigger PD-like changes in the brain, contributing to a better understanding of neurodegenerative processes linked to viral infections.
Prior to her Ph.D., Cara graduated in veterinary medicine from the University of Veterinary Medicine, Hannover in 2021. At the Bitan Lab, her research aims to develop small-molecule therapeutics for PD. Her current project focuses on investigating the efficacy, safety, and pharmacokinetics of these compounds to pave the way for future clinical applications.
Driven by a strong scientific interest in neurodegeneration and a personal awareness of the impact of PD, Cara is dedicated to advancing treatment strategies for this condition.
